Valentine's Day preview & one lunch

For Valentine's Day, consider that any of the following are easily cut into hearts, either with small cookie cutters or a knife:
  • melons;
  • cucumbers;
  • bread/sandwiches/cheese (you can do an imprint if you don't want to waste any);
  • grape tomatoes (pin two together, perhaps with a strand of spaghetti) or strawberries.
You can also use an egg mold to make sushi rice hearts or hard-boiled egg hearts.

And these foods are naturally red (or close):
  • watermelon, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, red apples, red grapes;
  • kidney beans, red lentils;
  • beets, tomatoes, red bell peppers.
If you have a red box, try black or white foods (such as black beans or cauliflower) for some contrast. Red foods look good against white backgrounds.

Some lunches you might want to look back at for inspiration:

And here's the quick lunch I sent for my husband today:

-- Chicken over fried rice;
-- Chopped cucumber with a grape tomato balloon;
-- Pear.
